PROJECT 02 / 2024
Projecting the Sky into a Room
A landscape without a clear outline
When I entered a dark room and saw a landscape projected in blue onto the wall, I was surprised that the outside view could appear through a large opening. Even without a clear image, the landscape is still there. I made this work to give form to what interested me about that.
PROJECT 03 / 2008
A room as photographic apparatus
Thinking that a room could also become a camera, I built my own 8×10-format camera and made this series with 8-hour exposures.

Press Kit and reviewsExhibition enquiryAn earlier point of dialogue: in Nobuo Yamanaka I respect (2013), Okamoto used a hole in a catalogue about Yamanaka to project the landscape outside. The making history traces how the opening became part of the picture.
23 work series by Meisai Okamoto, presented through published images exploring pinhole cameras, camera obscura, pinhole photography, light and darkness.
